Dutch Oven Cooking > Stirrin' the Pot

Ah, silly little scouts...

(1/1)

Darren:
...of COURSE you can have pizza on the campout.

When asking what they wanted to eat, the told me "Pizza." So, I am going to give them pizza.

DeShawn, do you have the DO Pizza recipe up here yet? I'll have to go looking. It is fantastic.

Ah, there is is: http://dutchovenchef.com/index.php?topic=14.0

So I usually do a small modification on this - I put the dough ingredients into the bread machine and set to dough. I think it takes 90 minutes.

After that, I put it into a well lubricated large zip top bag and put in the cooler with all of the cold stuff, and then head up to camp!

The cool thing is that the second rise is nice and slow, and it really makes for a flavorful crust when it comes out.

And those silly scouts thought I was kidding! Either that, or they thought I'd bring up a cold Little Caesars box or something.

Hopefully they will be surprised...  ;)

I am considering also making some sort of dessert, but to tell the truth, the camp will be supplying s'mores, and with a budget shortage, maybe I won't. Anyway, pizza should be fairly cheap to bring - a bottle of sauce, some pepperoni, and some cheese, and they will be quite happy, thank you very much.

Thoughts for modifications?

Discuss.

DeShawn:
Nice.  The only suggestion I have is to make a LOT.  Even 11-year-old scouts can CHOW DOWN on Dutch oven pizza!

Darren:
Well, I'm only going to have three of them for this campout, so I was thinking two pizzas should suffice. I'll bring some other food as well!

It's all good.

DeShawn:
Sounds like a lot of fun!

All this pizza talk made me hungry for some.  So I made a nice double-crust stuffed pizza.

And I took pictures!

Darren:
No pics here - didn't take my camera to the camp, but the results were about what was expected...

All three scouts said it was the best pizza they had ever eaten.

We made the rest of the camp INSANELY jealous.

My old patrol leader who is in an older patrol now came over and hung out with us for a while (he was on staff at the camp). He still wanted to be in my patrol...hehehe...

Mission accomplished!
